Year 1 Homework

Reading

At Badsey, we believe the most important homework you can do with your child is to read with them each day. It’s the key that can unlock all other areas of learning, and as Mr Moss always says ‘Reading Makes You Brainy!'

We encourage our children to read to an adult at home daily and discuss the text, by predicting what might happen in the book, asking questions about the plot and characters and ensuring your child understands the meaning of the words they read.

We ask you to please sign your child’s reading record book each evening, so we can monitor the progress your child is making. Your child will also earn book tokens for reading at home, which are collected by the class with the aim of receiving Badsey Bookworm, given to the class which reads the most at home.

Spelling

It will really benefit your child if you can help them practise writing out these common exception words so the spelling of them becomes automatic. A larger copy is available here.

History Choice Grid

This is our choice grid linking to this term's history on ‘Toys from the Past’. Children can complete as many of the activities as they choose and bring their work into school to share with the rest of the class. A larger copy of the choice grid is available here.
