Badsey First School

Spanish

Badsey First School uses the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to deliver a broad, vibrant and ambitious Spanish curriculum. We want our pupils to be excited to learn another language and be inspired to continue to study languages beyond KS2.

Language Angels provides a progressive, thematic programme of study which will ensure knowledge is being upon each year. We will revisit learning regularly to ensure pupils are developing their Spanish vocabulary and have opportunities to practise speaking the language they have already learned. Pupils will understand how different languages belong within the world around us.

The four key language learning skills; listening, speaking, reading and writing will be taught and all necessary grammar will be covered throughout the programme. Lessons include songs, role play and games to give pupils a varied and exciting learning experience.

Pupils will develop a genuine interest and positive curiosity about foreign languages, finding them enjoyable and stimulating. Learning a second language will also offer pupils the opportunity to explore relationships between language and identity, develop a deeper understanding of other cultures and the world around them with a better awareness of self, others and cultural differences. We want our pupils to become life-long language learners.

Supporting Your Child With Languages At Home

Duolingo is a brilliant app which makes learning languages fun. With quick, bite sized  lessons, you can earn points and unlock new levels whilst gaining real- world communication skills.

Here is what our children say about learning Spanish

I love learning the Spanish songs in class, we get to sing along and make up actions and dance moves. It helps us to remember to the words.
I can now speak 3 different languages. I like how some Spanish words are similar to the English and French words so I can look out for patterns.
I enjoy playing the interactive games on the whiteboard, it can get competitive as we try to be the fastest in the class to read the Spanish word and then translate it.
My Grandma and Grandad live in Spain and I speak to them every week. I enjoy telling them what I have learnt to say in Spanish. When I go to visit them in the summer holidays, I can talk to them and their friends in Spanish.

Here are some photographs of our children enjoying their Spanish sessions
