Badsey First School

Year 2

Welcome to our Year 2 class page

We are an enthusiastic bunch of happy learners who take pride in our classroom and in everything we do. The BFS values are important to us and we work together to follow them and be our best! We have had lots of fun so far in Year 2 and we are so excited about the learning opportunities ahead.
Mrs Austin is our teacher and we have Mrs Lewis helping us with our learning.

Summer Term News

We are continuing our journey to be  ‘Junior’ ready. We have matured academically and socially and are rising to every challenge set.

In English, the children have particularly enjoyed reading Indigo Wilde and the Creatures of Jellybean Crescent and writing in different genres linked to this story. If you want to know about a Yeti, we are the class to ask!

Maths has again been challenging because we have been learning to tell the time to 5 minute intervals and solving missing number problems, yet the children’s perseverance has meant they have been rewarded. We have particularly enjoyed our retrieval telling the time tasks.

We are continuing to develop our historical enquiry skills learning all things Badsey. We have loved learning about our local area and how it has changed which has been enhanced by a local village walk. In Geography we are doing a contrasting study, comparing the human and physical geography of our local area with Kingston, Jamaica.  In Science, e have successfully grown sunflowers and flowers from bulbs as well as a tomato plant; check out our plants in our school garden.

As we enter our final half term together, Mrs Lewis and I look forward to the successful growth of each and every member of Kite class.

Reading in KS1
At Badsey First School, we value the importance of reading.
It is important that your child reads regularly at home to help them consolidate the phonics skills that they have been learning in school, develop their fluency and support their comprehension. It is really important that all children have their reading records and reading books in school each day.  When your child reads at school, you will receive feedback in the reading record too.
